The Konkan Railway Corporation has terminated the pay parking fee collection contract at the Margao railway station due to the failure of the contactor to make the periodic payments.
KRC senior official Baban Ghatge told the media that pending the floating of a fresh tender, the KRC will collect the parking fees departmentally.
Ghatge told The Goan that the contractor was mandated to pay an amount of Rs 27 lakh to the KRC, but has failed to make the payments. “Since the contractor has violated the terms of the contract, we have terminated the pay parking fee collection project. We will float a new tender. It will take some 4-5 days before the fees are collected departmentally,” he said.
The pay parking fee collection contract had kicked up a row of sorts last month after the visitors to the Margao railway station had complained of overcharging by staff deployed for the parking fee collection.
