After a long and gruesome wait, people of Belagavi and Goa have some good news as  the widening, reconstruction and repairs of the Belagavi -Goa road via Chorla will be commencing soon. Government of Karnataka has directed to commence the construction work with immediate effect. The two laning of the 69.17 km road was sanctioned and inaugurated by Union Minister Nitin Gadkari in February this year.

However, as the Goa government is yet to hand over the road from Chorla to Sankhali to the NHAI authorities, commencement of the work in Goa is likely to delay further.

District incharge minister of Belagavi Govind Karjol who held the meeting of the district officials on Monday directed the NHAI authorities to commence the work on the 43 km between Peeranwadi  (Belagavi) to Chorla.

Finalising November 14 as the date for performing pooja, minister Karjol said that he would be present for the same and also would monitor the progress of work. He also directed the forest officials to cooperate with NHAI authorities for implementation of the work at a faster pace.

Meanwhile,  briefing about the hurdles in taking up the work Belagavi Deputy Commissioner Nitesh Patil said that the work has been delayed as Goa government is not ready to handover the Goan side of the road to NHAI.

However, minister Karjol directed the NHAI authorities to commence the work on the 43 kms stretch in Karnataka .

It may be recalled that Goa Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant during his recent visit to Belagavi had urged Government of Karnataka to repair or reconstruct the heavily dilapidated road on Karnataka side.

Thus, solution for the woes of the travellers seems to be in sight as the reconstruction of this route is slated to commence from November 14 , much to the relief of the people of both the States.
