Kadamba Transport Corporation Limited (KTCL), a Government of Goa undertaking, has been financially rolling on a rough spot for the last many years. Suffering severely in terms of revenue generation, the transport corporation has suffered a loss of around Rs 119.06 crores in the last 10 years. The only year Kadamba Transport Corporation Limited earned a profit was in the year 2015-16, fetching gains of Rs 5.19 crore.
The figures were revealed by the transport minister during Goa Assembly session.
This year the transport corporation is projected to see a hole in its pocket to the tune of Rs 25 crore.
KTCL experts have attributed the huge losses to salary cost, regulated fare, operation in social obligatory routes and the competition from private bus operators.
KTCL buses also suffer from frequent breakdowns and accidents leading the corporation to spend more on purchase of new buses. Around 8,621 KTCL buses have met with accidents suffering a loss of Rs 57.51 lakh in the last 7 years and two months.
A total of 408 vehicles were purchased by KTCL since March 2012 and 127 buses are likely to be replaced in the next 3 years.
