Concerned about a large amount of garbage dumped at the entrance of the KTC bus stand in Mapusa, the Mapusa Urban Health Centre has issued a notice under the Goa Public Health Act to the General Manager of the Kadamba Transport Corporation and the Mapusa Municipal Council (MMC).

The KTC and the MMC have been directed to clear the garbage and to file a compliance report within the next seven days, failing which action will be taken against them.

In this regard, GOACAN Convenor Roland Martins had filed a complaint with the health officer stating that every morning commuters have to witness piles of garbage at the entrance of the KTC bus stand, posing a nuisance and threat to public health.

Taking cognizance of the complaint, the Health Centre issued a notice to the KTC and the MMC, with a copy to the deputy collector.

Meanwhile, the GOACAN had taken the initiative to remove a broken wall and dysfunctional iron gate at the entrance of the KTC bus stand. GOACAN has suggested asphalting of the area so that buses and other vehicles can enter the bus station smoothly.
