The Labour Commissioner has decided to intervene in the Kadamba Transport Corporation Ltd (KTCL) workers resorting to a strike demanding the implementation of the seventh pay commission.
The commissioner has asked pursuant of the strike notice to have a discussion at its office on December 30 on the issue. In a statement issued by the pursuant, the union aims to appraise the office of the labour commissioner about the settlement which is in existence and as per the binding settlement when the pay commission is made applicable.
The KTC drivers and allied employees association has served a 21-day strike notice to the management expressing their intent to protest on December 31, to demand for implementation of the seventh pay commission to all workmen and staff employees of the corporation. They have also demanded for the regularisation of daily wage, casual and contract workers.
In a statement issued by leaders of the workers association, Gajanan Naik, president of the union said KTCL operated, managed and administered under the overall supervision and control of the State government.
It also undertakes various social responsibilities of the State government by giving relaxation in the fare to senior citizens, freedom fighters, specially abled people, students, etc.
“In the past the State government from time to time has implemented the recommendations of various pay commissions to these workmen and staff employees. In addition there is binding agreement between the management of Kadamba Transport Corporation Ltd (KTCL) and its workmen and as per this agreement the management has to extend the benefits of 7th Pay Commission to the employees of KTCL,” said Naik.
In addition, he said KTCL also operated various routes connecting the remotest parts of Goa to the main stream even though these routes were not profit oriented, but was done keeping in mind the social responsibility towards the peoples welfare.
