Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) Chief Girish Chodankar on Monday said the Karnataka government’s reported action in seeking details on churches and missionaries in that state is being done to polarize the society with an eye on the Assembly election in Goa.
The GPCC chief also demanded dismissal of the BJP government headed by Chief Minister Pramod Sawant for its failure to reply to the queries raised by members of the Legislative Assembly.
Addressing the media, Chodankar said, “The BJP will go to any extent to polarize the votes. The decision in Karnataka has been taken to polarize the vote in Goa ahead of the Assembly election”, he said.
Asked how the Karnataka government’s decision will help the BJP when at least six MLAs of the party hail from the minority community, Chodankar shot back, saying “one does not know whether the minority MLAs will get a nomination to seek reelection. Some of the minority MLAs may not even get the re-nomination to contest the coming polls. The BJP will go to any extent to retain power even by polarizing the society”, he said.
He added: “The fact that Chief Minister Pramod Sawant participated in the RSS rally on Dusshera day is a clear indication the BJP is out to polarize the vote ahead of the polls”.
The GPCC president slammed the Pramod Sawant government for trying to fool Goans by not replying to the queries asked by the members of the Assembly. “The opposition MLAs led by Opposition Leader Digambar Kamat had go move out to register their protest over the government’s delaying tactics to provide replies to their queries. The BJP government is a defective and insensitive government”, he said, adding that the people of Goa will teach the government a lesson.
Earlier, the GPCC president welcomed Adv. Adonis Colaco, former AAP member, Velim and his supporters into the Congress fold in the presence of PCC vice-president M K Sheikh, district president Joe Dias, Velim block congress president Veena Cardozo and former MLA Benjamin D’Silva.
