Late night party scuffles keep policemen busy

At least two late night party brawls, one in the capital city and another in its St Cruz suburb kept the men in uniform busy and landed seven behind bars including a minor on Sunday.

In the first incident, a group from Margao got into a massive fist fight with another group from Ponda as they crossed paths on a flight of stairs leading to Panaji's upscale nightspot SOHO at Patto.

Police have arrested three youth from the Margao group -- Viraj Gadkari, Aditya Naik and Zia Mansoor -- and booked them with charges of "attempted murder" of the new BNS Act. 

The trio has been remanded in police custody for three days by a local court.

Ponda resident Shardul Shenvi Khandeparkar (24) suffered grievous injuries and police said he was strangulated during the brawl with the "intent to kill".

In a second incident, the Old Goa police arrested four accused in the attempt to murder case which occurred at a restaurant in Santa Cruz on Saturday night.

Two accused persons namely Anil Godinho and Sunil, both from Old Goa, along with others assaulted a taxi driver Latif Talvai from Indira Nagar, Chimbel.

Talvai was assaulted by the accused with knife and glass bottles with an intention to kill him due to which Talvai sustained multiple injuries on his back and abdominal region.

While Anil Godinho and a minor were arrested from Merces, two other accused namely Sunil Godinho and Rajvir Sharma were arrested from Sangli, Maharashtra.

The minor was produced before CWC and sent to Apna Ghar.
