Late Santarita Coelho’s family wants son for Navelim ZP polls

MARGAO
Family members and supporters of Navelim Congress Zilla Panchayat candidate, late Santarita “Babush” Coelho, have requested the Congress leadership to field Coelho’s son Edrich as the party candidate.

The election for the Navelim ZP constituency had to be countermanded following the death of Santarita Coelho. The State Election Commission is expected to fix a date to hold the countermanded election for the Navelim seat next year.

Addressing the media, late Santarita’s wife, Natty, who is a member of the Navelim panchayat body, said the entire family along with Congress workers and supporters had moved door to door in support of her husband during the campaign.

“Since we had already approached the voters during the campaign, it is our request to the party leadership to nominate Edrich for the seat,” she said.

Edrich pointed out that people of the constituency have been requesting that either he or his Mummy should contest the countermanded election. “There were many who requested me to contest the election as a youth. My dad had a good connect with the people of Navelim. We request GPCC chief Girish Chodankar and Navelim MLA Luizinho Faleiro to nominate me as a party candidate”, he said.

Asked whether he has any plans to contest on any other party banner, since the family has been close to NCP leader Churchill Alemao, Edrich said he, his family and the supporters are only requesting the Congress to give the ticket for him. “We have been supporting the Congress party and we hope the party leaders will listen to our request’, he added.

Borges Rebello said supporters of Babush Coelho are positive that the Congress will take a decision by nominating son Edric for the Navelim seat. “Babush Coelho has been a popular figure in Navelim and has been a people’s choice”, Borges said, while exuding confidence the Congress will nomination son Edrich for the ticket.
