Laterite quarry raided at Caurem; locals irked

The Mines and Geology department on Wednesday raided a laterite quarry at Caurem-Pirla and seized three earth movers, a loaded truck and three empty trucks.

Annoyed over the development, the locals confronted the mines officials. According to sources at Quepem Police station, officials from the mines and geology raided a laterite quarry at Caurem-Pirla. Three earth movers, a loaded truck and three empty trucks were attached from the site.  Sanguem MLA Prasad Gaonkar along with his supporters rushed to the site and had heated discussions with the mines officials.   
In the evening, about 60 locals from Caurem along with Sanguem MLA Gaonkar went to Quepem Police station and submitted a complaint to Quepem PI Dessai over the issue of a mines officer for passing some comments against the Sanguem legislator.   
Quepem Police will forward the complaint to the Mines and Geology department for further action.

CANACONA   In Canacona’s nine member panchayats, wards 3, 7 and 8 are reserved for women, while wards 3 and 4 are reserved for women in the 7-member panchayats.   According to information gathered from the local administration, none of the seven panchayats in Canacona taluka will have new wards.
