Saying it is the prerogative of Chief Minister Pramod Sawant to induct Minister in his Cabinet, Law Minister Aleixo Sequeira has stuck to his guns on his statement that the land grab cases would not have taken place without the connivance of notaries.
The Law Minister said a panel of Advocates Association has filed complaints against him, right up to the office of Prime Minister of India, seeking his dismissal from the Ministry, but asserted he stands what he had stated to the media on the involvement of notaries in the land fraud.
Saying that the government is in the process of initiating action against the notaries named by the Jadhav Commission constituted to probe into the land grab scam, Sequeira said he is very clear in his mind, adding that he stands by what he had stated on the matter.
“Whatever I had stated are facts that no one can deny the same. I have gone through the Jadhav Commission report. The report speaks of what I had spoken at the programme organised by the South Goa Advocates Association at the district Collectorate,” he said.
Saying the government is not protecting anyone involved in the land grab scam, he said the government is acting on the Jadhav Commission report.
Asked to specify the names of the notaries who have been named in the Jadhav Commission report, the Law Minister shot back, “the media can very well go through the report and find out the names of notaries named by the Commission for their connivance in facilitating land grab.”
Referring to the complaint lodged against him by the Bar Association of Quepem and Sanguem seeking his dismissal, Sequeira again shot back, “it is the prerogative of the Chief Minister to decide on the composition of his Cabinet. But, I stand by what I had stated on the involvement of notaries in the land grab.”
