The controversial events preceding the no-confidence motion against the Siridao-Palem sarpanch reverberated in the State Legislative Assembly on Friday with the opposition labeling the deplorable incidents as total collapse of law and order in the State.
Raising the issue just before the Question Hour, Fatorda MLA, Vijai Sardessai informed the House that police had locked the Siridao-Palem panchayat office raising uncertainty over the meeting to discuss the no-trust motion.
“The sarpanch, who has lost the confidence of the majority members belong to the local MLA of the BJP and the members who moved the no-trust motion have an association with my party. There is an attempt to disrupt the no-confidence motion meeting. This is goonda-police joint venture. There is complete collapse of law and order,” Sardessai thundered in the House.
Backing him was Leader of Opposition Digambar Kamat who informed that on his way to attend the assembly, people of Siridao stopped and requested him to visit the Siridao-Palem panchayat to witness the controversial developments.
“We are in a democracy. Why is the process to hold the meeting to discuss no-trust motion being disrupted,” Kamat asked.
Chief Minister Pramod Sawant said that he was not aware of the incidents but would ensure that the meeting would be held.
“There is no need to worry. The meeting to discuss the no-confidence motion will be held,” Sawant assured, amidst the opposition din.
Finally, the meeting to discuss the no-trust motion was held outside the panchayat office, leading to the ouster of the beleaguered sarpanch Jagdish Gauns.
