All eyes are focused on the South Goa District Magistrate, Agnelo Fernandes with the Shivaji Jayanti celebrations scheduled in the city on February 19 just four days away.

Even as it is still unclear whether the district authorities will allow the Shivaji rally into the city or not on February 19, an organisation Sanvidaan Bachao Sangharsh Samiti has urged the district Collector to stop the rally from passing through the communally sensitive areas of Rumdamol village.

A delegation of the organisation called on the district Magistrate, Agnelo Fernandes on Thursday with a plea to dismantle a structure made of iron at the Gogol junction. In the memorandum submitted to the Collector, the organisation stated that the rally which passes through the minority dominated Rumdamol village puts extreme fear in the minds of the minority inhabitants of the area.

“Shivaji Maharaj is our national hero, who had high regards to all the communities and organising rallies and write ups on communal lines is highly objectionable,” the memorandum stated, while requesting the district Collector to immediately order the concerned authorities to act immediately.

A member of the delegation informed that the district Magistrate has assured to send their memorandum to the district Superintendent of Police and the Margao Municipal Chief Officer for necessary action.

The district authorities had a meeting last week to discuss the issue of permitting the Shivaji rally into the city. Even though DySP, Margao Raju Raut Desai had told the organisers of the rally that the authorities have now banned all rallies entering the city, the authorities are looking up at the district Collector to take a final decision.
