Even as the authorities have kick-started the work of covering the Sonsodo legacy dump with tarpaulin to prevent leachate from flowing into the adjoining drains during monsoons, leachate that had spilt onto the roads from garbage trucks contributed to accidents on the Margao-Curtorim road at Sonsodo during the first pre-monsoon showers on Tuesday.
When the city was lashed by the first pre-monsoon showers on Tuesday morning, several two-wheeler riders met with accidents at Sonsodo on the main road.
The victims complained that the Margao Municipal Council garbage-laden trucks and the leachate flowing down from the Sonsodo dump is responsible for the slippery condition of the Sonsodo road.
Some of the victims demanded that the authorities including the Margao Municipal Council clean up and wash the Sonsodo road and prevent further accidents in the coming days.
One of the victims squarely blamed the Margao Municipal Council for the slippery road condition at Sonsodo for the state of accidents on Tuesday morning.
