Margao civic chief Damu Shirodkar led the way as he cleared his trade licence fees amounting to Rs 19,000 for his establishments as per the newly notified rates.
The MMC chairperson further pointed out that traders, as well as members of the public, have accepted the notified rates, as evidenced by the collection of trade licence fees in the last two days of the new financial year.
Shirodkar noted that revenue to the tune of Rs 4.36 lakh from trade licence fees was received by the civic body on Thursday. Revenue amounting to Rs 7.5 lakh was also received from house tax.
The MMC chairperson personally made his presence felt at the tax collection counter and the adjoining birth and death section to streamline the functioning and issuance of certificates.
He told the media that additional staff had been deployed at the tax collection counter to guide and advise the public who had come to pay the trade licence fees. “Since the civic body has effected changes in the trade licence fees, traders and members of the public are directed to the taxation section first to get the correct amount of fees required to be paid as per the new rates,” he said.
