In an interesting development regarding the construction of the road at Cavelossim village, Sarpanch Dixon Vaz on Thursday stated that the road in question is not a private road and shall be deemed a public road once completed.
Addressing the media to shed light on the row surrounding the road construction, the Cavelossim Sarpanch explained that the panchayat had put a clause while granting permission, stating that the proposed road shall be deemed a public road, adding that the public would gain access to the beach once development takes place in the property in question.
He further said that once the road is completed, it would be handed over to the panchayat. “The panchayat has granted permission to the company St Michael to build the road only after they accepted the clause that the road, once completed, will be for public use,” he said.
Dixon further clarified that the road was being constructed by the party as per the Regional Plan. “The party is building the road since the panchayat cannot spend so much on the project. That does not mean this is a private road,” he added, accusing some individuals of trying to misguide and confuse the people of Cavelossim.
Saying that Cavelossim village depends on tourism, the Sarpanch mentioned that the village is reliant on the hospitality business. “The villagers are not in favour of mega housing projects. Unlike other villages, Cavelossim does not allow mega housing projects. At the same time, the village is dependent on tourism and hospitality,” he added.
“The party has obtained all the permissions from the Comunidade and revenue authorities. The panchayat has also given permission with the condition that the road, once constructed, should be for public use,” he said.
