The Mormugao Municipal Council (MMC) on Monday conducted a site inspection of the Garbage Treatment Plant at Sada and the site of the proposed plant to clear the legacy waste.

MMC Chairperson Nandadeep Raut, MMC solid waste management committee , MMC Chief Officer Gaurish Shankhwalkar and Ward 1 councillor Sandesh Mesta were a part of the inspection.

Speaking to reporters, Raut appealed to people to have some patience for a few days as the pending legacy waste plant would commence operations within a few days and would clear much of the garbage in Vasco city.

“People from Sada and Ward 1 have suffered a lot because of the rising garbage dump. I assure that all issues will be resolved in the next 15 days,” said Raut.

Raut also assured that the partially damaged compound wall at the Sada garabge treatment plant would be repaired within the next six months.

“Garbage is actually a major issue and we are almost at the final stage of resolving this problem. We must thank Urban Development Minister Milind Naik and Garbage Minister Michael Lobo to have taken the step to clear the pending 1.2 lakh tonnes of legacy waste.” “The GSL has also given us an MRF shed worth Rs 60 lakh from its CSR funds and the garbage issue will soon be solved,” Raut added.

Ward 1 councillor Sandesh Mesta said people had been complaining that waste from the garbage treatment plant had been flowing on to the roads.

“The MMC chairperson has assured me that the garbage issue will be resolved in the next three-four months. Everyone will benefit when this waste is cleared.”
