South Goa Member of Parliament Adv. Narendra Sawaikar on Tuesday stated that the State and Central Government are studying all legal aspects for the resumption of mining activities in Goa.
Sawaikar visited mining dependents, who are staging dharna at Dharbandora, on Tuesday morning and assured them of help to restart mining. The president of Dharbandora Taluka Truck Owners Association Vinayak alias Balaji Gawas was present on the occasion. They are staging dharna under the banner of Goa Mining People's Front (GMPF), who recently held 'solidarity run' in Ponda condemning the state government for not acting on resumption of mining.
“State government and government at center is studying all legal aspects to start mining, as the leases were cancelled by Supreme Court and not by any lower court. We have to systematically address this issue. Hence, we all, including lawyers of mining companies are working together for the solution.” Sawaikar said.
“Many have suggested for ordinance as only solution. But if it is promulgated, then the members of other parties should also support to make it act.” He said.
He also said that Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar recently held meeting with MLAs from mining belts and will meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi on this issue. “
