PERNEM
Stating that Goa had developed faster than most states in the country, Deputy Chief Minister Babu Ajgaonkar on Saturday reiterated that locals would be given priority in projects being set up in Pernem taluka.
Addressing the Liberation Day function at Pernem after hoisting the national flag, Ajgaonkar said Goa was liberated 14 years after the nation got its freedom and yet, Goa has developed faster than most of the other states.
“Pernem taluka is developing even faster. Projects such as PMC building, cricket stadium, Ayush hospital and Ravindra Bhavan have received approval and work will start soon. Locals will be given priority in projects that are being set up in Pernem,” he added.
Students of Shri Bhagwati High School presented a patriotic song to mark the occasion.
Meanwhile, BJP's women wing also lit lamps at the Patradevi Memorial to pay tributes to the freedom fighters.
"We are fortunate today because of our brave freedom fighters. Let us keep their memories alive," said Pernem's former mayor and BJP leader Usha Nagvekar.
North Goa BJP women president Ekta Chodankar added, "The responsibility of safeguarding our motherland lies on everyone. We cannot forget the sacrifices of our freedom fighters."
