MAPUSA
Mapusa MLA Joshua D’Souza on Saturday said in the current situation liberation meant being self-reliant and exhorted the youth to take up entrepreneurship to move forward.
He also said the government would back those who took up business activities by supporting local entrepreneurs and small scale industries “ to produce, source and sell locally.
“I appeal to the youth of Goa to take charge of your own future. Don’t be afraid to get your hands dirty. Take up entrepreneurship and start your own business. The State government strongly supports skill development, startup policies and IT schemes for young and budding individuals,” D’Souza said.
The Mapusa MLA was addressing a gathering on the occasion of Goa’s 60th Liberation Day function organised by the Mapusa Municipal Council (MMC) at the Hutatma Chowk in Mapusa.
The Administrator of MMC Paresh Faldessai, Chief Officer Kabir Shirgaonkar, Deputy Collector Akshay Potekar, Mamlatdar Laxmikant Kuttikar, former chairpersons Ryan Braganza, Sandip Falari and Sudhir Kandolkar and ex-councilors and civic staff were also present.
Continuing, D’Souza said Chief Minister Pramod Sawant has launched the initiative of Atmanirbar Bharat and Swampurna Goem, which was a village-level action plan to make Goa self-sufficient and self-reliant.
“Liberation is an evolving process. In 1961 we were liberated from the Portuguese rule. But today in 2020, the definition of liberation has completely changed. The world, the country and our state is still facing the threat of the pandemic and with it the economic implications and financial burdens on the government and the people. Today, our definition of liberation comes in the form of self-reliance,” he said.
He further said the government has introduced several benefits and schemes for farmers, entrepreneurs and individuals interested in agriculture and animal husbandry, fisheries, livestock, milk production and food processing businesses.
“My office and I will assist you to avail the benefit of these schemes and liaison with various departments on your behalf,” said D’Souza, while urging the youth to set up business enterprises.
He also said he believed in the concept of clean India and will strive to make Mapusa clean.
