On a day when the State welcomed first charter flight of the tourism season, tragedy struck another group of tourists on a holiday in Goa, after lightning struck a Delhi couple at Candolim beach leading the death of the husband.
The wife who is pregnant has suffered mild injuries but was in a deep state of shock, Calangute Police informed.
According to police sources, a family of seven including the husband-wife duo and their two children had arrived in the State on October 2.
They had booked a resort along the beach in Candolim.
On Friday evening, the husband-duo stepped out to venture on the beach under overcast skies.
Police said the duo was clicking photos on the beach when a sudden lightning bolt struck the couple causing severe chest injuries to the husband.
The Drishti Lifeguard on duty rushed in to administrate first-aid and the two were first taken to the Candolim Primary Health Centre and then shifted to North Goa District Hospital, Mapusa, where the husband was pronounced brought dead.
The wife who is pregnant suffered minor injuries but was in a state of shock and has been shifted to Goa Medical College hospital at Panaji.
Calangute Police has registered the case as unnatural death and sent the body for autopsy. PSI Laxi Amonkar is investigating the incident.
