GTDC launches Rs 36.30 lakh project to brighten landmark

The Dr Francisco Luis Gomes memorial at Navelim will soon be illuminated at an estimated cost of Rs 36.30 lakh.
GTDC Chairman Ganesh Gaonkar laid the foundation stone for the project on Monday in the presence of Navelim MLA Ulhas Tuemkar, former Chief Minister Luizinho Faleiro, Parish Priest of Our Lady of Rosary Church Fr Gabriel Coutinho, Navelim ZP Member Cipru Cardozo and others.
The project will light up the memorial statue with spotlights and a floodlight, along with decorative poles and lamps around the site. The entrance gate will also be illuminated with 9-metre poles fitted with LED streetlights.
At the event, the guests paid tribute to Dr Gomes, calling him a great Goan nationalist who had raised his voice in Portugal against colonial rule.
