Congress MLA Reginaldo Lourenco has demanded an inquiry into social media reports of the presence of an overloaded carrier with coal in the Arabian sea between Vasco and Dona Paula.
In a letter to the Chief Minister Pramod Sawant and Minister for Environment Nilesh Cabral, the Curtorim MLA hoped the State government will conduct an impartial investigation on the presence of the overloaded carrier in the sea and not jump to the conclusion by condoning the culprits represented by the powerful coal lobby.
“The picture clicked by a fisherman completely indicates that BJP governments at the Centre and in Goa with partnership of the capitalists have a wicked plan to destroy our Goan waters be it the sea or rivers or air or land. What is Goa Pollution Control Board (GSPCB) doing to stop coal pollution in Goa as on date? Why couldn’t (GSPCB) detect this criminal
misdemeanour of an over loaded vessel coal being transported over Goan waters ? Has GSPCB like other government departments been bought by the coal mafia?” he demanded to know.
