Plaint against minister, MPT, director of mines

VASCO
GPCC Vice President Sankalp Amonkar on Friday filed a police complaint against Kodee Resources, Director of Department of Mines and Geology (DMG), Urban Development Minister Milind Naik and the Mormugao Port Trust (MPT) chairman, after alleging that around 1,800 tonnes of iron ore cargo from MPT were loaded into barges and subsequently into a ship using fraudulent procedures.

Amonkar demanded that an FIR be registered and a thorough inquiry is initiated in the incident in quick time before the ship at MPT sails out of the port with the loaded iron ore cargo.

While demanding that machinery used in the incident be seized, Amonkar also said threatened to file a PIL on the issue and approach the court in the matter.

Responding to statements at a BJP block press conference, Amonkar said he was willing to face any number of defamation cases but would not back out from taking public issues.

“It is for authorities to probe the matter and give justice to the people and I am even willing to resign from politics if issues raised by me are proved not genuine and taken up only for political mileage.”

"We have filed a complaint at the police station and we have given all the necessary documents and photos. I have told PI Paresh Naik that if the cargo was sold by e-auction, there was no need for screening and excavation.”

“The stock cargo which has been loaded is known as spillage and leftover cargo and the actual procedure is that such materials are screened, weighed, checked for grade and then sold to the highest bidder.”

“MN Construction, a stevedoring company owned by Naik has taken permission to bring in a trailer at MPT but instead, got an excavator, wheel loader and screener and carried out the work without the knowledge and permission of MPT," alleged Amonkar.

Amonkar also alleged that there were reports that the supervisor, manager and superintendent of MPT had been suspended.

“This shows that there were some illegalities in the MPT. The government is trying to pressurise the MPT chairman and using departments like DMG and others like puppets.”

“It is the need of the hour to have a thorough inquiry in the incident and action has to be taken in quick time," said Amonkar.
