Claiming that some former councillors have shown interest in contesting upcoming Mapusa Municipal Council (MMC) elections, former MMC chairperson and senior councillor Sudhir Kandolkar said he may put up a panel of candidates depending upon ward reservations.
"I'm ready to field candidates in all 20 municipal wards and have been talking with a few aspirants who have shown enthusiasm. In some wards, more than one person has shown interest to fight the election from the same ward, and I have convened 2-3 meetings as well.”
“Till date, ward reservations have not been announced and so, I am yet to take any final decision. But there is a need to give more exposure to new faces in the municipal council and so, I’m considering some new candidates, while some former councillors are in contact with me as well," he said.
Kandolkar had contested municipal elections as part of the BJP-backed Mapusa Vikas Front panel the last time, but later left the group and fought the Mapusa assembly by-poll on the Congress ticket.
