Zilla Panchayat Elections will be held in Goa in the month of December, informed Chief Minister Pramod Sawant. State Election Commission will decide on the dates, he added.
The zilla panchayat elections were initially scheduled for March 15 as five-year term of the zilla panchayats ended on March 23. The elections were postponed due to Covid pandemic.
A total of 203 candidates are contesting the elections for the two local bodies ” South and North Goa zilla panchayats ” each comprising 25 constituencies. Of the 50 ZP constituencies, polls will be held for 48 seats as a single nomination was received from Sancoale ZP constituency, while the Navelim ZP poll has been countermanded after the death of a candidate.
