Striker Sandeep Limbu's superb 59th minute strike helped Churchill Brothers Sports Club edge Curtorim Gymkhana 1-0 in the Taca Goa Under 20 league at Cansaulim Sports Complex. There was no score at half time.
Curtorim Gymkhana were on the back foot for major periods of the game as Churchill Brothers played with more attacking intent. Curtorim Gymkhana survived a scare as early as Churchill Brothers forwards muffed scoring chances with only rival goalkeeper at their mercy.
Post resumption ,Churchill Brothers continued to enjoy the better share of exchanges and their forwards fired couple of shots which either went wide or shot straight into the safe hands of Curtorim Gymkhana goalkeeper. The all-important goal came in the 59th minute when striker Sandeep Limbu unleashed a volley which crashed into the net giving no chance to the rival goalkeeper Lokesh Kamani. After tasting success, Churchill Brothers strikers had a chance to increase the margin but they ran out of ideas after reaching the rival danger zone.
As the game reached its closing stages, the pressure from Curtorim Gymkhana increased but Churchill Brothers Sports Club defenders stood tall in protecting the slender lead and troop out deserving winners. Earlier Ladson Fernandes and Melisio failed to convert the chances in front of the rival goal.
