In an order Excise Commissioner Menino D’Souza said that given that obtaining a police clearance is a time-consuming process, it can be submitted within six months.
As per the amended provisions of the Goa Excise Duty Rules, “no licence or renewal of licence shall be granted to the applicant who has any criminal record or criminal case registered against him under any law for the time being in force.”
“Taking into consideration that the applications require some time to submit the PCC for compliance of the above said provisions of the law as the same cannot be obtained from the police authorities on short notice, the government has conveyed its approval to permit the renewal of licences for the financial year 2017-18 subject to the condition that the licencee shall produce the police clearance report within six months from the date of issue of the renewal of liquor licence,” Menino said.
The taluka excise inspectors have now directed to process the liquor licences for renewal as per the existing provisions of law. Renewals were all kept on hold pending police clearances leaving liquor licencees worried about the renewal.
