Stating that most habitation and all liquor shops are located within 500 metres of national highway which passes through the heart of Canacona taluka, the Association of Businessmen of Canacona (ABC) has appealed to lift the Supreme Court ban on the lines of Jallikattu in Tamil Nadu.
ABC has convened an urgent meeting near Lions House at Xeller on Wednesday evening and has requested all the members affected by the Supreme Court's order to close down all types of liquor shops located within 500 meters of highways to attend in large numbers.
ABC convenor Diogo Da Silva said most of the habitation is within 500 metres and so also the liquor shops.
The special meeting will deliberate on consequences and also to create a pressure group to support all Goa Liquor Association to compel the State government to pass an ordinance or like the one recently passed by Tamil Nadu to lift the Supreme Court ban on Jallikattu.
