Around 50 loan applications (for loans above 2 lakh) under Chief Minister Rojgar Yojna (CMRY) scheme of unemployed youth which were pending will now get momentum as Chief Minister Pramod Sawant has approved the new task force committee which will now scrutinise and approve the loan applications.
The CMRY is a loan scheme sponsored by the government of Goa and implemented by the Goa Economic Development Corporation (EDC). It aims to boost self-employment and to curb the problem of unemployment in Goa.
After the appointment of new chairman and vice-chairman in July 2019 the older task force committee is not in power and as per procedure new task force committee (TFC) has to be approved by the Chief Minister. The file for approval was pending with Chief Minister for last many days and as per information from sources the Chief Minister has now approved the file.
The process of clearing the files under CMRY scheme will again start. Meanwhile Managing Director of EDC Limited Kiran Ballikar said that the applications for loans below Rs 2 lakh and below Rs 6 lakh for vehicles has been cleared regularly and 75 such applications have been cleared this year by the corporation as the applications are not required to be scrutinised by TFC.
Ballikar also informed that since inception of EDC in 2003 total Rs 200 odd crore loan has been disbursed by EDC to around 7,000 odd applicants and recovery of around Rs 150 odd crore has been done.
Applicants must belong to the age bracket of 18-45 years with five years relaxation given to reserved categories.
Applicant’s need be at least Std VIII pass with relaxation in deserving cases. The individual applicants get project loan of around Rs 25 lakh and self-help groups get maximum Rs 75 lakh.
The person gets 50 per cent interest free loan and 80 per cent for SC/ST. The SC and ST applicants also get additional benefit from Schedule Tribe commission. Rate of interest on 50 per cent of loan is 8 per cent per annum while 6 per cent per annum for female borrowers in General category.
