Assuring to tackle the garbage problems in the State starting with the formation of a garbage committee, Waste Management Minister Michael Lobo also indicated plans to go ahead with the Bainguinim Garbage Plant after the public hearing is completed. The minister also promised to repair the potholes on roads in Mapusa within the next 8-10 days.

Addressing a function at St Britto HS in Mapusa, Lobo said, “I shall endeavour to solve this problem constituency wise. There will be a public hearing on the proposed Bainguinim Garbage Treatment Plant and thereafter, with permission from union environment ministry, the plant will be launched.”

“Former CM late Manohar Parrikar had formed the Garbage Management Corporation in 2014 and a plant was later set up at Saligao. This, however, is insufficient to handle garbage of the entire State. A special committee will be formed to study the problem of each constituency and will try to solve the issue.”

The minister said there are many cases relating to the Mundkar Act pending before the mamlatdars.

“Late Bahushabeb Bandokar had enacted the Mundkar Act in 1965 to solve the issues of Mundkars. There is an urgent need to resolve these pending cases and give justice to them. This will be taken up on priority basis,” said Lobo.

Others present at the function included Jesuit Provincial of the Goa Province Fr Roland Coelho and St Britto High School Principal Fr Cedric Fernandes.

Involve mundkars in Mapusa Ravindra Bhavan project, says Lobo
MAPUSA: Commending Mapusa MLA Joshua D’Souza for resolving the long-pending Ravindra Bhavan at Mapusa by identifying land for the proposed project, RDA Minister Michael Lobo has said it is important to take mundkars into confidence while acquiring the land.
“The land price fixed by the government is very less and hence communidade and mundkars will not readily agree to hand over their land. To avoid a confrontation, it is essential that the communidade and mundkars/farmers are offered a partnership in the project on a PPP basis. Mapusa MLA Joshua D’Soza, the Mapusa Municipal Council chairperson and councillors can resolve this issue after discussions with those concerned,” said Lobo.
