SANGUEM
A group of residents in Sanguem have decried the construction of a road through paddy fields at Dando-Sanguem.
A social activist Santan Rodrigues informed The Goan that work to construct the road by the side of the main road has been going on since Saturday last despite the matter being brought to the notice of the flying squad.
“On being informed of the road construction work, the flying squad visited the site and the work was stopped for some time and restarted with full swing the next day,” he said.
“Even after the flying squad was informed a second time, the work continued.”
Rodrigues along with other locals have reported the matter to the Sanguem deputy collector, Sanguem mamlatdar and the Uguem Panchayat, in whose jurisdiction the road is being constructed.
In a written complaint, Rodrigues has complained about the damage that the road will cause to plantations, paddy fields and a rivulet in the area.
Rodrgiues has demanded an immediate halt to ongoing road construction work before any further damage is caused to ecology in the vicinity.
