A pedestrian was injured after being struck by a speeding vehicle in a hit-and-run mishap at New Vaddem, Vasco, on Tuesday night. Vasco police have registered a case against the driver, who fled the scene without offering medical assistance to the victim.
According to police reports, the incident occurred at around 8.40 pm on the slope leading towards the New Vaddem residential area.
The accused was driving a car in a rash and negligent manner and, while proceeding from GSL Vaddem towards New Vaddem, allegedly hit pedestrian Manoj Sharma, who was walking on the left side of the road. Sharma suffered injuries in the mishap.
Following the collision, the driver reportedly fled the scene with the vehicle, failing to provide medical aid or inform authorities about the accident.
Upon receiving the complaint from Vasco Head Constable Suresh Dassar, an offence was registered against the driver under Sections 281 and 125(b) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Sections 134(a) & (b) of the Motor Vehicles Act.
Vasco Police have launched an investigation into the incident, with Head Constable Suresh Dassar leading the case. Further action is expected as authorities work to nab the driver.
