The scenic Sarzora lake became the main topic at the gram sabha of the Sarzora village panchayat on Sunday, but not for its beauty.
Some gram sabha members said that villagers, especially senior citizens, can no longer access the lake as it is guarded by security staff. They urged the Water Resources Department (WRD) to reopen the gates so that people can enjoy evening walks by the lake.
Panch member Sabita Mascarenhas told the media that the gram sabha has asked the WRD to allow local villagers, including senior citizens, access to the lake. “Members questioned how the WRD could block entry for locals by placing security guards,” she said.
The meeting also saw complaints about frequent power cuts and voltage fluctuations in the village.
The members demanded that the electricity department take urgent steps to resolve these problems.
