A group of residents from Mormugao taluka marched to the Vasco police station, demanding strict action against a social media user accused of posting an objectionable video targetting Lord Parshuram and the Hindu community.
The protesters described the content as offensive and capable of disturbing communal harmony, and urged police to act swiftly to prevent escalation.
According to the complaint submitted, the accused—identified as Seby Vas—allegedly uploaded a video on Facebook containing remarks deemed insulting to religious sentiments. The complainants stated that the video surfaced in the wake of recent sensitive developments in the State and could provoke tension if left unchecked. The group formally requested police to register an FIR under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Information Technology Act.
In their complaint, the residents have alleged that the content was deliberately designed to promote enmity between communities and outrage religious feelings. They further called on authorities to immediately trace the origin of the video, identify all those involved in its circulation, and ensure its removal from social media platforms without delay.
The protestors also raised strong demands during the march, stating that if the accused is not located at the earliest, authorities should initiate stronger measures including issuing a lookout notice in his name. Some members of the group additionally demanded accountability from close associates or family members if the accused attempts to evade law enforcement, though police are yet to comment on this aspect.
Police officials at Vasco station acknowledged receipt of the complaint and informed the group that the matter would be examined as per legal procedures.
The incident has triggered concern among local residents, with many calling for responsible use of social media and strict enforcement of laws against content that could disrupt public order.
