Complain of unbearable stench
Locals protest near the gate of the Goa Meat Complex late Friday night.

Unbearable stench from the Goa Meat Complex forced residents of Mharvasada-Usgao to gather in protest near the gate of the complex late Friday night.
Panch member Manisha Usgaonkar, who was also at the site, claimed that vehicles carrying waste are being transported to the meat complex from across Goa and Karnataka, causing the unbearable stench.
Usgaonkar said the foul smell spreads in the area in the morning and at night.
“CM Pramod Sawant and Health Minister Vishwajit Rane should seriously look into this matter and resolve the situation; else residents may be forced to come out on the streets and stop vehicles carrying waste,” said Usgaonkar.
Usgaonkar claimed that in the past, formal complaints had been made to the Goa State Pollution Control Board (GSPCB) regarding the stench.
“When officials of the meat complex are aware that GSPCB are going to inspect the factory, the area is cleaned up,” said Usgaonkar.
Locals also complained that waste from the vehicles has been falling on the road and have threatened to block vehicles if such waste is seen on the roads again.
