Claim workers of garbage contractor working with them

The vehicles laden with chicken waste at the Sonsodo site, raising a stink in the area.
MARGAO
Sonsodo witnessed an uproar on Tuesday morning after local residents raised a stink over the parking of vehicles laden with chicken meat waste at the site.
Goa Forward party-backed Councillors comprising of Ravindra Naik, Pooja Naik and others later called on the Margao Municipal Chief Officer Gaurish Sankhwalkar with a plea to initiate action against the nuisance caused by the stinking vehicles.
They also claimed that workers of a garbage contractor are working for the stinking vehicles and demanded action. The group later lodged a complaint with the police demanding action.
The issue was raised by former Margao Municipal Chairperson Dr Babita Prabhudesai after she came across the stinking vehicles parked at the Sonsodo site since the last three days. She pointed out that even if the vehicles are engaged in transporting chicken meat waste from the SGPDA market, the drivers had no business and come and park along the Sonsodo road.
The MMC Chief Officer explained to the Goa Forward Councilors that an agency has been appointed by the Goa Waste Management Corporation (GWMC) to collect the chicken meat waste from the SGPDA retail market and transport the same to the neighbouring state of Karnataka.
“The contractor used to station a big vehicle at the SGPDA and transfer the waste before it is transported to Karnataka. Since there were some objections from the market and given that there was a breakdown in a vehicle, the pick-up vans laden with the chicken waste had come to Sonsodo”, he said.
The Chief Officer said strict instructions have been issued to the contractor not to bring the vehicles at Sonsodo. He also assured to inquire whether workers engaged by the garbage contractor are working for the vehicles engaged in collecting chicken meat waste.
