The members of Goa Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GCCI) along with Ralph de Sousa, Chandrakant Gawas, Dhirendra Thakker, Naresh Mandrekar and Sanket Kaskar met PWD minister Nilesh Cabral to discuss the interstate road issues and diversion of the roads and find solutions. Most of the stakeholders of the logistics industry in Goa face issues like the closure of Anmod and Chorla Ghat road for the last three years, problems faced due to the incomplete work of the Highway connecting to Mormuguo Port etc.
The 4.5 km road stretch from Gauri Petrol pump to Succoro circle is becoming more of a bottleneck in traffic movement and commuters moving from Patradevi to Canacona face problems due to the incomplete road work. Also, the last mile connectivity to coastal cargo movement within the State of Goa is not resolved yet, the delegation pointed out.
Assuring that the Chorla and Anmod Ghat road closure issue is under discussion and will be looked into, the PWD minister informed that due to some financial constraints the work of the loop connection has not been completed. However, he assured his support in this case. Regarding the 4.5 km road stretch in Porvorim from Gauri Petrol pump to Succoro circle, Cabral informed due to objection from some individuals the widening of the road was halted, and the matter was taken up in the Supreme Court but after having a meeting with the individuals they came to consent terms and the same will be sent to the Supreme Court to issue a fresh order so that the process of widening of the road can begin.
The PWD department has already started the official procedures to widen the road from Patradevi to Canacona. As soon as the department receives the required permission, the work will begin. Regarding the last mile connectivity, the minister informed the delegation to submit to his office the detailed data regarding the issues faced. The minister requested GCCI to make a list of situations where revenue leakage is happening and support the government by suggesting the remedies to these revenue leakages.
