The multi-modal logistics park, which is being set up in Balli in South Goa, will commence operations by the end of this year.

This crucial announcement was made by Joseph George, general manager, strategic planning & business development, Konkan Railway.
The park is being developed by Konkan Railway in collaboration with Container Corporation of India (Concor). Talking about this project, George said, “The multi-modal logistics park is being constructed in Balli just off the highway, which means it has very good road accessibility. This project will have a customs bonded warehouse as well, which is spread over an area of 5,000 sqmts.”
He continued, “Once this warehouse clears the goods for customs, clearance from the port will not be a necessity.”
With the help of this park and warehouse, companies in Goa will be able to send their cargo through container trains to ports up to JNPT (Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust). Moreover, the products will be customs cleared, which means these products will not have to wait for custom clearance at JNPT or any other port once they go through this park.
Also, more capacity is being added to the Konkan Railway. Talking about this, George said, “We will be doubling 147 kms of railway line. In Goa, 35 kms of railway line will be doubled. Overall, it will help us in introducing 21 new stations. Thanks to this, the average distance between stations will reduce from 12.75 kms at present to 8.3 kms.”
More stations and doubling of the railway line will help in adding more trains to Konkan Railway, which will in turn boost connectivity.
Besides, it was also informed that Konkan Railway has completed all safety work required for the monsoon along its route from Kolad (after Roha station of Central Railway) to Thokur (before Mangalore station). About 950 personnel will be patrolling the Konkan Railway route from Kolad to Thokur during the monsoon.
It is also reported that three control rooms at Belapur, Ratnagiri and Margao will work 24x7 during monsoon period for ensuring safe running of trains.
