The kith and kin of the deceased workers who expired in the fire tragedy at the Vijay Marine Services, Loutolim have demanded compensation from the company as well as making arrangements for the transportation of the mortal remains to their native states.

In fact, a relative of the two brothers, who died in the accident, has threatened not to give their assent for the post mortem examination and the last rites unless the management compensates the family members and foots the bill of transporting the bodies.

They told the media at the South Goa district hospital that the two brothers have left behind them young children with no source of income to eke a living. In fact, the kin of the deceased brothers claimed a compensation of minimum Rs 10 lakh each for the two brothers from the management.

He also said that the management should make all arrangements to send the mortal remains to their native states. “We have come to Goa since the last two days, but there is no sign of the management promising to pay any compensation. How can we take the mortal remains of the deceased back home to their families without any compensation. The two brothers have been the only bread winners to their family members, including  small minor children”, the relative said.

Meanwhile, Maina Curtorim police has said that post mortem examinations on the bodies of the three deceased workers could not be carried out since the police were waiting for the relatives to arrive in the state.
