Low water pressure takes centre stage at Chandor gram sabha

MARGAO

The issue of low water pressure took centre stage at the gram sabha of the Chandor on Sunday.

At the gram sabha meeting chaired by sarpanch Estefan Dias, members pointed out that the water consumers have been facing low water pressure in the last few days. They demanded that the panchayat immediately write to the PWD authorities to increase and maintain the water pressure.

The meeting also deliberated on the issue of migrants and tenants staying in the panchayat jurisdiction. After much discussion, the gram sabha has resolved that the panchas would initiate the tenant verification drive in the village and submit the report to the local body.

Members raised the issue of the garbage disposal mechanism in the village. The sarpanch informed that the material recovery facility (MRF) proposed at Fatramoll has been approved and the process of tendering will soon be initiated with the approval of the Block Development Officer.

Minutes rejected

Meanwhile, probably for the first time ever, the minutes of the gram sabha of Chandor Cavorim held on Feb 19, 2023, were not approved and the panchayat was asked to rewrite the same and present at the next gram sabha.

Villagers opined that the minutes were wrongly written and incomplete. Practically every paragraph had to be corrected and nearly 45 minutes were taken up to discuss the minutes.

Gram sabha member and VDC convener Julio D'Silva pointed out that even in October last year, more than half an hour was taken to correct the minutes of the previous gram sabha.

Gram sabha member Joy D'Silva proposed that the minutes be rewritten and submitted at the next gram sabha and the BDO observer was asked to report this matter to the BDO.
