Yet to get Covid financial aid, say Rachol villagers

MARGAO

Gram sabha members of the Rachol panchayat on Sunday pointed out that they have not received the COVID-19 assistance of Rs 5,000 promised by the government.

At the gram sabha chaired by sarpanch Joseph Vaz, members said while they had applied for COVID-19 financial assistance after the government had unveiled the scheme, they are yet to receive the assistance to date.

The gram sabha also discussed the pre-monsoon works to be taken up by the panchayat and the concerned departments ahead of the monsoon.

Sarpanch Vaz explained in detail the ongoing work of desilting of wells, and drainages in all the five panchayat wards of the village. He also requested the gram sabha members to come forward with any development proposals so that they can be taken up in time with concerned departments.

Regarding the maintenance of the village roads, he informed that the panchayat is following up on the matter with the PWD, adding that an inspection has been carried out with the engineers.

While assuring to complete the work within a short time, the sarpanch, however, said the PWD has done hot mixing of the road from the main entrance to Santa Cruz waddo at Ilha de Rachol on Goa Statehood Day without any intimation to the panchayat.

The gram sabha members pointed out that the electricity department has dug up trenches at the seminary waddo posing danger and raising fears of waterlogging during the monsoon.

The sarpanch informed that he will write to the authority for immediate action. He requested the members to cut the branches of trees which are likely to fall during the ensuing rains.

Vaz further informed the gram sabha members that new fans, panchayat name board, drinking water cooler etc have been purchased and fixed accordingly.
