Power Minister Pandurang Madkaikar, on Monday, announced that the  government would subsidize the power tariff for those consumers who  consume between 0-200 units with even the 4.9% hike proposed for this  section of consumers being revoked.

Addressing a press conference, Madkaikar said that they  would inform the Joint Electricity Regulatory Commission (JERC) of the  decision and the hikes would only be effected for persons who consume a  larger number of units.

“We will give a subsidy and those domestic consumers who  use between 0-100 units and those who use between 101 and 200 units will  have their rates unchanged. There will be no hike, not even the 4.9%  hike we had initially proposed,” Madkaikar announced.
