PANAJI: The State Congress on Monday distanced itself from its senior leader Pratapsingh Rane’s statement on Goans working in the United Kingdom.
A statement issued by GPCC chief Girish Chodankar said to speak disrespectfully about any profession is fundamentally against the philosophy of Congress and the statement was unnecessary and incorrect.
“The Congress party leaves it to Mr Rane’s wisdom either to withdraw or explain it. He is wise and experienced enough to react appropriately,” Chodankar said.
The GPCC chief also lauded members of the Goan diaspora who he pointed out have occupied high positions besides in some cases gone on to become senators and legislators in the countries they reside.
“We believe in dignity of labour. GPCC appeals to Goans to fight the devil of unemployment and loss of livelihood let loose by the BJP-led government,” Chodankar said.
