Curtorim MLA Aleixo Reginaldo Lourenco on Friday said he felt personally responsible for not putting enough pressure on Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar to step down.
When asked at a press conference at the Congress headquarters whether he felt that the Congress had failed to put enough pressure on the government and on Parrikar to step down, Lourenco said that he could not answer on behalf of the party as a whole, but personally he did feel responsible.
“I feel even during the Assembly, I should have taken him on more strongly,” said the legislator, adding that it was only because Aldona MLA Glenn Ticlo approached him before the session asking him to go easy on the CM, that he had relented.
“Glenn asked me not to ask the CM too many questions since he was unwell,” said Lourenco. When asked if the whole party was asked to go easy on Parrikar, Lourenco responded saying that he was only talking for himself and not for the entire party.
Lourenco added that as requested, he had not gone all out to barrage Parrikar with questions on the 29 portfolios the CM handled. He, however, said he could not remember the exact date and session for which Ticlo had put forward the request.
Lourenco meanwhile
said that Parrikar-led government was even trying to fool the press after Parrikar’s no-show at the National Press Day function held in the city on Friday, even though Parrikar was supposed to deliver an address.
