MARGAO
After the ambitious multi-storeyed parking project was hit by the GST tangle, there’s some hope that the Rs 6.50 crore project will be back on track “ around three years after the municipality had laid the foundation stone for the first such parking project in the commercial capital.
If the project was delayed after the contractor claimed additional money citing GST, he has now agreed to execute the project at the cost quoted by him in the tender.
Margao Municipal Council engineer Arsekar informed that the contractor has submitted a letter for extension of the validity of the tender. “Once the request letter is given the nod by the council, it will issue the contractor the work order to commence work on the project,” Arsekar said.
Sources said the contractor has agreed to give a letter requesting for the extension of the validity after a meeting with MMC Chairperson Babita Angle Prabhudesai, days after the PWD made it clear that calculations indicate that the municipality need not pay additional amount on account of the GST.
Foundation stone for the ambitious project was laid during the tenure of former MMC chairperson Arthur D’Silva. Funds for the project were sanctioned by the government as part the Golden Jubilee celebration.
The project, however, was marked by huge delays before the new council headed by Babita Prabhudesai decided to go ahead with it to resolve the burning parking problem plaguing the commercial town.
