Civic, traffic and law enforcement authorities are set to implement the new traffic plan on a pilot basis from October 8 to October 26
A meeting was conducted earlier this week to finalise the plan and it was convened by the Sattari Mamlatdar Dasharath Gawas, who is also the Valpoi Municipal Council (VMC) Chief officer, VMC chairperson Parveen Shaikh, VMC Councillor Akhtar Shah, Valpoi Police Inspector Shivram Vaigankar, Traffi Police traffic Sandesh Narvekar and other officials.
Addressing the meet, Sattari Mamlatdar Dashrath Gawas said it was a long-pending demand from the people of valpoi to address the traffic congestion isse plaguing the town, especially during school and peak hours.
VMC Chairperson Praveen Shaikh said the resolution had been passed two months ago to implement traffic management plan in the valpoi town, adding that the traffic plan would be implemented from October 8 till October 26 on a pilot basis.
During this period, Gawas said the public would we welcome to send in their written suggestions and objections regarding the traffic plan to the VMC.
The suggestions and objections would be discussed at a public meeting after October 26 and if needed, the traffic plan could be modified, he added.
Gawas also directed the police and RTO to monitor the implementation of the revised traffic plan on pilot basis.
When contacted, Health Minister and Valpoi MLA Vishwajeet Rane defended the new traffic plan, claiming that Valpoi town is developing at a rapid pace and traffic has also been on the increase.
“Infrastructure and projects which are already implemented in Valpoi town. It is also necessity to regulate traffic in Valpoi town for the future. I have already directed the VMC, police department and RTO to seriously look into this matter,” said Rane.
