Taxi operator loses permit for involvement in prostitution

The State Transport Authority on Monday ordered the cancellation of the taxi permit of one Shridhar Rout of Orda, Candolim, for involvement in a prostitution operation in Baga-Calangute.   

The request to cancel the taxi permit was made by Calangute police following their raid in June which busted a prostitution racket in the tourism belt.   

The Wagon R taxi car belonging to Rout was intercepted in the raid by the Calangute police team at Baga and two Gujarati girls in their early twenties were rescued. 

The driver of the taxi, Manjunath Balganoor, was also arrested and charged under the Immoral Traffic Prevention Act.   

Rout, who was served notice to appear before the STA. He however chose to skip the hearing held on June 21.
