The Directorate of Municipal Administration will seek the advise of Goa Waste Management Corporation to assess the waste treatment site at Kerye-Khandepar in a bid to strengthen the infrastructure.
The Director of Municipal Administration R Menaka on Monday visited the Ponda Municipal Council (PMC) and took stock of the ongoing developmental works of the municipality.
The GSUDA officials, PMC Vice Chairperson Vishwanath Dalvi and PMC Chief Officer Navanath Naik were among those present.
Menaka visited the golden jubilee project, proposed park, Shastri Hall building, market complex and garbage treatment site at Kerye-Khandepar.
Later, addressing media persons, Menaka said the work at the garbage site in Kerye-Khandepar is going on and stressed on the need to improve the infrastructure further. “We will seek the advise of Goa Waste Management Corporation and will carry out more work accordingly.” Menaka said there is need to spread awareness on segregation of garbage in the neighbouring village panchayat. “Since PMC is also handling the garbage of the neighbouring village (Curti-Khandepar), we need to make them aware of segregating the garbage so that it doesn’t become a problem to the workers. We need to organise a programme to spread this awareness,” Menaka said.
The director visited all places where garbage was treated at Kerye-Khandepar.
Meanwhile, the signature project under the golden jubilee fund will house a movie theatre, a food court, a hall and a library.
Asked what steps have been taken to expedite work on this project which is pending since the last five years, Menaka replied: “The PMC has sought additional funds to complete this work and hence it has been referred to the Art and Culture Department.”
“If it is not in a position to provide additional funds, then we will ask the government so this project can be completed.”
Menaka also interacted with self-help groups selling products at the market complex and assured them help of getting trained under the National Urban Livelihood Mission scheme.
“Yes, we need to help these women so as to empower them. We will help them avail government schemes if they wish,” Menaka said.
The DMA also said that all efforts would be made to make the market complex fully functional. “We will complete the pending work of this project and will make it fully functional. For this, we will hold another joint meeting after Ganesh Chaturthi.”
