It's now exactly two months since alert residents of Benaulim had blown the whistle after they came across alleged pilferage of LPG gas in a delivery van. What, however, is mired in mystery and is awaiting answer from the residents is the tampering of the LPG cylinder seal by the accused persons. For, though the video footage and photographs of the incident clearly showed that the seal was tampered in a bid to transfer gas from a domestic cylinder into a commercial one, the Civil Supplies department and the petroleum company officials have come out with a report stating that the seal was not at all tampered.
While the Colva police and the DySP's office had been summoning the residents of Benaulim for recording of their statements in connection with the case, the police are yet to come clear on the modus operandi adopted by the accused in removing the LPG seal without damaging it.
When this question was posed to the investigating officer, Margao Sub-Divisional Police Officer, DySP Raju Raut Desai, he sought a week's time to resolve the mystery surrounding the LPG seal. He, however, asserted that residents of Benaulim have been called by the police as part of the investigations and not to mete them harassment. "Since I have taken over the office of Margao Sub-Divisional Police Officer only recently, give me some to time to unearth the mystery surrounding the LPG cylinder seal. I am verifying the facts for the moment," he said, while denying that the police are meting out harassment to the residents for whistle blowing in the case.
