Former Verna panch member Mario Marcus Pereira has filed his nomination paper for the Nuvem by-poll as an Independent. The Returning Officer has so far received Pereira's lone nomination paper for the Nuvem seat.
Though the Congress has finalised the candidature of former Nuvem Sarpanch Reuben D'Costa for the seat, he is expected to file his papers on Tuesday, which is the last date for filing of nomination papers for the ZP by-poll.
Meanwhile, the United Goans Democratic Party, which had given indications that the party may field candidate for the by-poll for the Curtorim and Nuvem seats, has said that absence of the former Minister, Mickky Pacheco from the country has come in the way of the party contesting the by-poll.
With Mickky holed up abroad, UGDP senior vice-president Radharao Gracias told The Goan that the plan to field candidates on the UGDP banner may not take place given that Tuesday is the last date to file the nomination papers.
So far, only one nomination received for Nuvem seat
The Returning Officer for the Nuvem Zilla Panchayat seat, Uday Prabhudesai on Monday received the lone nomination paper on Monday.
